Population

The current year population in the Bluebonnet region is 182,550. The 2000 Census revealed a population of 152,427, and in 1990 it was 117,288 representing a 30 percent change. It is estimated that the population in this area will be 191,596 in 2014, representing a change of 9.2 percent from 2009. The current population is 47.8 percent male and 52.2 percent female. In 2009, the median age of the population in this area was 35.8, compared to the U.S. median age which was 37.1. The population density in your area is 52.0 people per square mile.

Households

There are currently 58,190 households in the Bluebonnet Region. The Census revealed household counts of 54,261 in 2000, up from 41,625 in 1990, representing a change of 30.4 percent.  For the current year, the average household size in this area is 3.02 persons.

In 2009, the median number of years in residence in the Bluebonnet Region population is 2.38. The average household size in this geography was 2.92 people and the average family size was 3.51 people. The average number of vehicles per household in this geography was 1.9.

Income

In 2009, the median household income in the Bluebonnet Region was $48,177, compared to the U.S. median which was $53,679. The Census revealed median household incomes of $38,667 in 2000 and $22,018 in 1990 representing a change of 75.6 percent. It is estimated that the median household income in this area will be $51,868 in 2014, which would represent a change of 7.7 percent from the current year.
 

Race & Ethnicity

In 2009, the racial makeup of the region was as follows: 76.9 percent White; 10.2 percent Black; 0.5 percent Native American; 0.5 percent Asian/Pacific Islander; and 9.1 percent Other. Compare these to the U.S. racial makeup which was: 73.9 percent White, 12.4 percent Black, 0.8 percent Native American, 4.4 percent Asian/Pacific Islander and 5.4 percent Other.

People of Hispanic ethnicity are counted independently of race. People of Hispanic origin make up 27.5 percent of the current year population in the region. Compare this to the U.S. makeup of 15.6 percent. Changes in the population within each race and ethnicity category from the 1990 Census to the 2000 Census are as follows: 132.9 percent American Indian, Eskimo, Aleut Population; 98.8 peercent Asian, Pacific Islander; 4.9 percent Black; 64.7 percent Hispanic Ethnicity; 28.2 percent Other; White 30.8 percent.

Housing

The median housing value in this area was $50,727 in 1990, compare this to the U.S. median of $78,360 for the same year. The 2000 Census median housing value was $81,548, which is a 60.8 percent change from 1990. In 1990, there were 31,047 owner occupied housing units in this area vs. 41,586 in 2000. Also in 1990, there were 10,578 renter occupied housing units in this area vs. 12,675 in 2000. The average rent in 1990 was $241 vs. $382 in 2000.

Employment

In 2009, there were 83,202 people over the age of 16 in the labor force in the region. Of these 93.4 percent were employed, 6.5 percent were unemployed, 38.8 percent were not in the labor force and 0.1 percent were in the Armed Forces. In 1990, unemployment in this area was 6.5 percent and in 2000 it was 4.2 percent.

In 2009, there were 51,033 employees in the region (daytime population) and there were 5,668 establishments.

For this area in 1990, 47.3 percent of employees were employed in white-collar occupations and 52.7 percent were employed in blue-collar occupations. In 2000, white-collar workers made up 52.6 percent of the population, and those employed in blue-collar occupations made up 47.4 percent. In 1990, the average time traveled to work was 13 minutes and in 2000 it was 28 minutes.
